Denim Style | Tips for Men and Women
I know, I know. “DUH denim is a closet staple! Why even blog about it?!” is probably what you’re thinking…
But to be honest, there’s a little more to styling jeans than just throwing them on with whatever you want and calling it a day. For instance, what if you want to wear a denim top with denim jeans? You definitely have to make sure one is darker than the other. Or what if you wanted to wear boyfriend jeans with a baggy tee? Don’t. Haha or give your baggy tee a knot in the front so you don’t look like a you’re ready to do some painting. There are a lot of do’s and don’t’s of wearing denim jeans, most of which is usually common sense so I won’t go over it all. (Comment if you if have specific questions and I’ll definitely answer to the best of my ability!)
What’s the Best Way to Style Denim?
Isn’t it ironic how many trends disappear and then eventually come back into style? Let’s talk denim for instance. Jeans are a timeless, classic piece that should be included in everyone’s wardrobe. There are so many different styles of denim. From skinny to flare or dark wash to distressed (my favorite), the possibilities are endless. Here are a few tips and tricks for styling denim correctly!
Women’s Denim Style
Personally, I think every woman needs to include a pair of form-fitting, comfortable skinny jean in their wardrobe. This type of pant can come in a variety of colors and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Remember this look I shared on the blog? A pair of black or dark wash skinny jeans can look great on any body type! This is a great look because it’s casual, yet I could still wear this to meet my girlfriends out on a Friday night.
Now let’s talk about the comeback of the flare jean. For those of you who can pull this look off, I applaud you! I believe that a good flare jean is a statement piece to an outfit. Try to avoid wearing a loose fitting top. It can make the outfit look sloppy overall and creates less of a focus on your stylish pants. Pairing flare jeans with a tucked in button-down shirt and wedges creates a classy, trendy look.
Men’s Denim Style
Men have just as many denim options as women. From distressed to dark wash or slim to loose-fitting, jeans are a must-have in a male’s wardrobe. I’ve found that many readers are often looking for styling tips for the men in their lives. You’ll want to find a brand that offers a variety of styles that are best suited for your body type. Personally, I find that a form-fitting, stretch jean is a go-to style for any man. This type of jean can be worn in the office (if your office allows a casual dress code) to meeting up with friends for dinner after work. Hunter mostly wears the athletic fit because it fits his body type the best. So finding the best fit for your man makes it easier for him to shop!
The loose-fitting jean is a hard look to pull off. When paired with a baggy top, it can look like there was little effort involved while getting dressed. I think a solution to this type of outfit is to wear a loose-fitting, distressed jean with a flannel and sneakers (Hunter’s favorite look). It gives an edgy vibe to an everyday look.
Overall, jeans are a necessity. As history tells us, they’re not going out of style any time soon. By incorporating a variety of denim styles to your wardrobe (and your man’s), your outfits can become interchangeable.
